Asp (Aspius aspius)
Asp (Aspius aspius) is a freshwater fish with elongated body with small scales, small eyes, large mouth, and long lower jaw. The males have a large number of whitish tubercles in the spawning season. Asp’s habitat includes Black Sea, Caspian Sea, and in Kazakhstani lakes and rivers.
Asp is a large predator fish with average weight of 2-3 kg, and normal commercial size is 50-55 cm at 4-5 years, however registered catches include individuals up to 120 cm. Spawning occurs from April to June. Commercial fisheries are located mainly in Southeastern Europe
